According to project details, the facility is expected to provide super-specialised services in areas such as cardiology and cardiothoracic care, oncology (cancer treatment), neurosurgery, kidney and organ transplant services, intensive care, trauma and emergency care, advanced diagnostic imaging and specialised surgical services.

The Ministry of Health has announced that the 2,000-bed Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Multi-Speciality Hospital in Uasin Gishu County is set for completion in early 2027, in a move expected to significantly boost specialised healthcare services.
Speaking after a consultative meeting with Defence Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Mariru at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga said the multi-billion-shilling project is progressing as planned, with both ministries committed to ensuring timely completion and operational readiness.
The meeting reviewed construction progress, implementation timelines, and key milestones for the flagship project, which the Ministry of Defence is delivering.
Dr Oluga described the hospital as a strategic national investment aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure, improving access to specialised treatment, and advancing the government’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.
“This is a critical national investment that will strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand access to specialised medical services,” said Dr Oluga.
Once completed, the facility will become Kenya’s largest hospital, greatly expanding the country’s capacity to provide advanced healthcare while positioning Eldoret as a regional centre for specialised treatment, medical training, research, and innovation.
Dr Oluga added that the hospital is expected to improve access to advanced medical care, strengthen the referral system, and ease pressure on existing referral hospitals across the country.
The project is also expected to attract patients from neighbouring counties seeking specialised treatment.
The new MTRH Multi-Speciality Hospital is designed to offer advanced and highly specialised healthcare services that are currently limited or require patients to travel abroad.
Beyond treatment, the hospital will serve as a major centre for medical training, research, and innovation, strengthening Kenya’s referral health system and reducing the number of patients seeking specialised treatment outside the country.
The project traces back to January 2023, when the government announced plans to build a modern 2,000-bed multi-speciality facility in Kiplombe, Eldoret.
