Former Gor Mahia striker Ronald Okoth appointed Kagera Sugar CEO after exit from Sofapaka

Okoth heads to Tanzania after a stint at Sofapaka on the same capacity.

Former Sofapaka Chief Executive Officer Ronald Okoth has landed a new role at Tanzanian side Kagera Sugar FC, taking over the CEO position just days after resigning from his post at the Kenyan Premier League club.

The move sees Okoth return swiftly to club leadership, this time in Bukoba, where he is tasked with helping Kagera Sugar regain promotion to the Tanzanian Premier League. The club was relegated to the second division after finishing second-last in the 2024/25 NBC Premier League season, collecting only 23 points.

Okoth steps into the role previously held by Thabity Kandoro, whose contract was not extended following the end of the season.

In a statement released on July 4, 2025, Kagera Sugar acknowledged Kandoro’s efforts and outlined their ambition to revamp the club ahead of the new campaign.

“The club has officially reached an agreement not to renew the contract of Mr. Thabity Kandoro following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premier League season,” the club's communication department announced. “We thank him for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavours,” added the club.

Okoth brings with him a track record of steady leadership, having overseen two impactful seasons at Sofapaka. In his first year, he was instrumental in guiding the club to safety through the FKF Premier League playoffs.

His second year saw significant progress, as Sofapaka exceeded expectations and finished seventh on the log one of their strongest league performances in recent times.
