US–Iran deal to be signed on Sunday as talks near breakthrough

Trump described the proposed agreement as a firm guarantee against nuclear escalation, saying it would establish “a wall to no nuclear weapon.”

A deal aimed at ending hostilities between the United States and Iran is expected to be signed on Sunday, in what could mark a major diplomatic breakthrough and a potential easing of tensions across the Middle East, according to mediators involved in the talks.
US President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the agreement was scheduled for signing and indicated that, once in force, it would lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
“The deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is open to all,” he said.

Pakistan, which has played a key mediating role, said the agreement could be finalised within 24 hours, with preparations already underway for an electronic signing.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the region was closer to peace than at any point in recent months, with technical-level talks expected to follow once the initial deal is concluded.
"With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical level talks next week," Shehbaz Sharif wrote on X.
However, Iranian officials have urged caution over the timing. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that while discussions were progressing, the exact signing date remained uncertain, stressing that confirmation of the memorandum was still pending.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has previously indicated that the agreement under discussion could include measures to ease regional tensions and reopen key trade routes, alongside broader commitments linked to Iran’s nuclear programme.
He said any future steps on nuclear issues would be addressed in later stages of talks.
The proposed agreement follows weeks of escalating conflict that disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and heightened tensions across the Middle East.
If concluded as expected, the agreement would represent a significant shift in relations between Washington and Tehran, with potential implications for global energy markets and regional security.
