The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, has issued an urgent safety advisory to all Kenyan nationals residing in Myanmar and Thailand following a devastating earthquake that struck both nations.
"The Government of the Republic of Kenya expresses deep concern for its citizens and citizens of Myanmar and Thailand following the recent powerful earthquake that struck the two countries. We stand in solidarity with all those affected by this disaster."
In an advisory statement, the government urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Citizens are advised to stay alert and follow local news and official updates for information on aftershocks and emergency response efforts. Authorities emphasise the importance of staying informed to avoid potential hazards.

Kenyan citizens are also urged to limit travel to severely impacted areas. Those in unstable or damaged buildings should seek safe, open spaces and remain cautious of potential dangers such as falling debris, landslides, and weakened infrastructure.
To facilitate communication and assistance, the government is encouraging all Kenyans in Myanmar and Thailand to register with the Kenyan Embassy in Bangkok or any nearby East African Community diplomatic mission.
"If not already registered, provide your contact details to the Kenya Embassy in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand or the nearest East African Community diplomatic mission for assistance and updates. Contact: Hotline: +66990745752 or Email: [email protected]." stated the Government.

The advisory further stresses the importance of adhering to directives from local authorities. Kenyans in affected areas are urged to follow evacuation orders, safety advisories, and disaster management protocols to minimise risks.
The government has also called upon the Kenyan community in Myanmar and Thailand to check on their fellow nationals, particularly students, diaspora workers, and vulnerable individuals, to ensure their safety and well-being.
"Reach out to other Kenyans in your area, especially students, diaspora workers, and vulnerable individuals, to ensure their well-being," the government stated.
In case of emergencies, Kenyans can also reach the State Department for Diaspora Affairs through its emergency hotline at +254114757002.
