Tanzanian journalist who had been reported missing in Nairobi found
Amnesty Kenya had earlier reported her alleged abduction, stating that she was taken by three armed men driving a black Noah from Chaka Place in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
Tanzanian journalist and human rights advocate Maria Sarungi, who had been reported missing on Sunday has been found safe
Sarungi, a vocal critic of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, confirmed her safety in an X post.

“I am now safe, many thanks to everyone, and I will talk more tomorrow,” she wrote.
Amnesty Kenya had earlier reported her alleged abduction, stating that she was taken by three armed men driving a black Noah from Chaka Place in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 3:15 pm.
“Maria, a Tanzanian independent media editor and human rights defender, was kidnapped by three armed men in a black Noah from Chaka Place, Kilimani, Nairobi, Kenya, at 3:15 pm today. Teams are on-site,” Amnesty Kenya stated on X.
Sarungi has been a prominent critic of President Samia’s government, previously labelling it as “tyrannical.”
She has also spoken out against the Tanzanian administration’s handling of forced evictions of the Maasai Indigenous community.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
