Kenyans bracing for wet weekend as weatherman issues rainfall warning
The advisory highlights the likelihood of continued rains in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, the Coastal strip, as well as Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
Kenyans have been warned to prepare for another wet weekend, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rainfall across several regions starting Saturday.
In its latest weekend forecast covering Saturday, April 12, to Sunday, April 13, the Met Department said isolated heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of the country, including Nairobi and surrounding areas.

Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Kisii, are among those set to receive the heaviest rains. Other affected areas include Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, and Bomet.
In the Western region, the rains will also impact Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot. The downpour is expected to cause disruption, especially on roads, which have already been affected by the ongoing rains.
The rains are part of the March-April-May long rains season, which is currently at its peak. “For the Northern part of the country, the accumulated rainfall should be at least 10mm over three consecutive days,” the Met Department said.
They also noted that the onset of the rainy season is marked by a continuous wet spell of at least 20mm over three days without a dry period of seven days in the next three weeks. The Coastal region is expected to see the peak of this season in May.
