Edward Carey Kwach, a beloved media personality widely known as "Kwach," has passed away following a battle with meningitis. According to a statement from his family, he passed away on the evening of April 28, 2025, while receiving treatment for the illness.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey, that occurred last night, April 28, 2025, while receiving treatment for meningitis,” reads the family’s statement.
Earlier this month, Kwach was admitted to Coptic Hospital in critical condition. Well-wishers were urged to donate blood to help stabilise the radio personality’s condition.
Doctors had required approximately four pints of blood to support Kwach’s iron and hemoglobin levels. Despite the generosity of many who responded to the call, Kwach’s condition worsened, and he passed away, leaving a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Known for his exceptional taste in music, Kwach’s time on the airwaves was marked by a joyful and comforting presence. His family shared that he brought much-needed positivity to listeners.
“His voice became a familiar and trusted companion to many across the country, who tuned in not just for the music but for the warmth and humor he brought to his broadcasts,” the family added.
His passing has left an undeniable gap in the media landscape, with fans and colleagues alike mourning the loss of an individual who embodied kindness and professionalism.
The Kwach family has expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported them during this difficult period, thanking those who kept them in their thoughts and prayers.
"The support we have received from everyone during Carey's illness has been overwhelming. We deeply appreciate the generosity of those who donated blood, visited, and held him in their thoughts and prayers,” the family shared in the statement.
Funeral and memorial arrangements will be communicated in due course as the family continues to cope with this immense loss.
Kwach’s passing follows a particularly tragic period in Kenya's media industry. Just last month, the industry was hit by the sudden deaths of two prominent journalists, Nick Mudimba and Fredrick Parsayo. Mudimba, a veteran journalist with CGTN, KTN, Radio Africa, and Switch TV, collapsed at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County. Only days later, Parsayo was found dead at his home in Kinoo, Kikuyu. The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation, with the broadcaster confirming the matter was reported to Kinoo Police Station.
