Kasipul MP Charles Were died from five gunshot wounds, post-mortem reveals
Four suspects, William Imoli Shigali, Juma Ali Haikai, Douglas Muchiri Wambugu and David Mihigo Kagame, have since been arrested and arraigned in connection with the murder.
Chief Government Pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor, has revealed that Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo Were died from extensive internal injuries caused by five gunshots. This revelation follows a post-mortem conducted on his body on Monday.
Addressing journalists at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi on Monday after the nearly two-hour-long procedure, Oduor noted that two of the bullets struck Were's left forearm, with one exiting, while the other remained lodged deep in the same arm.

Further findings revealed that two other bullets entered through the left side of his chest. One exited through the right side, but the second inflicted fatal damage, tearing through Were's heart, lungs, liver and the aorta, before lodging in the spine.
"Two of the bullets struck the MP's left forearm. One exited, but the other remained lodged deep on the same forearm," he said.
“Forensic experts believe that Were had either raised his arm in a defensive gesture or was on a phone call," said Oduor.
"The report also established that two more bullets entered the left side of his chest; one exited on the right, but the other tore through critical organs and lodged in the spine. The trajectory of that bullet cut through the heart, lungs, liver and the aorta."
The final bullet, Oduor said, entered through the upper back and was found lodged inside.
"The late Mheshimiwa could not survive the injuries caused by the gunshots. He died from multiple vital organ injuries caused by gunshots which were a total of five," he said.
"There were no injuries aside from those caused by the gunshots."
Were was shot at point-blank range on May 1 near the Nairobi Funeral Home, in what detectives describe as a well-orchestrated attack by a lone gunman suspected to have been hired.
The assailant reportedly fired multiple times at close range before fleeing on a sports bike that had been waiting nearby. The MP's bodyguard and driver, who were in the car at the time, escaped unhurt.
Preliminary reports indicate that the gunmen trailed the MP from Parliament before killing him.

In a statement issued on Sunday, National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the arrests followed "further analysis of previously obtained leads", which placed the four suspects at the crime scene.
According to NPS, the suspects are believed to be part of organised criminal groups, including a gang identified as Mjahidin, which has been linked to armed robberies in Nairobi's Eastlands area.
