Kenyans warned to brace for hot days, cold nights this week

Kenyans are set to experience a mix of extreme weather this week, with the national forecast pointing to sweltering daytime heat in some regions and unusually cold nights in others.

The Central Highlands, including Nairobi, parts of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Western Kenya, are expected to receive more rain in the early part of the week.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, with a chance of evening showers through Saturday.
However, rainfall in these regions may reduce in intensity and coverage as the week progresses.
This comes after several weeks of consistent rain, offering hope for continued relief to farmers, though the slowdown may affect agricultural activities.
In sharp contrast, parts of the Coast, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya will see soaring daytime temperatures.
In Turkana and Samburu counties, temperatures could hit highs of 37 degrees Celsius. These counties are expected to remain sunny for most of the week, with only brief showers expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Nights here could dip to as low as 8 degrees Celsius. Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale are set for showers from Tuesday through Thursday, with drier and partly cloudy conditions expected by the weekend.
Temperatures in these areas will peak at around 34 degrees Celsius, with warm nights at 23 degrees.
Meanwhile, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland Tana River are forecast to experience mostly sunny mornings throughout the week.
Isolated showers are likely on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, with more sunshine expected from Thursday to Saturday.
Night showers are forecast early in the week, followed by partly cloudy skies. Daytime temperatures here could reach up to 35 degrees Celsius, while nights may cool down to 12 degrees.
In the western and Rift Valley counties, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and other residents can expect scattered morning showers throughout the week, followed by afternoon thunderstorms in some areas. Night rains are expected most days, except on Thursday.
Maximum temperatures will hover around 30 degrees, with minimums dipping to 9 degrees.
For residents in the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro, cold nights are expected, with temperatures possibly falling below 10 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department is advising those in these areas, particularly children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions, to stay warm.
With such wide-ranging conditions expected, the public is urged to remain alert, stay hydrated in hot regions, and keep warm in colder areas.
The weatherman encourages Kenyans to follow daily forecasts and adjust their plans accordingly, whether it’s grabbing an umbrella in Nairobi or dressing lightly in Garissa.
