DCI offers Sh1 million reward for capture of prime suspect in Kware killings Collins Jumaisi

Jumaisi escaped alongside 12 other suspects from Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi, prompting the suspension of eight police officers and the charging of five in court over the escape.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced a Sh1 million reward for anyone who helps locate Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the prime suspect in the gruesome killings of women whose remains were found at Nairobi’s Kware dumpsite.
In a statement on Tuesday, DCI said the suspect, who escaped custody in August 2024 just moments before his arraignment for murder, remains at large.

“The National Police Service hereby pledges a cash reward of Sh1 million to anyone who provides credible information that will assist in the re-arrest of the suspect,” the Authority said.
Members of the public who may know his whereabouts have been urged to report through the hashtag #FichuaKwaDCI, the toll-free hotline 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp at 0709 570 000. Reports can also be made at the nearest police station or through the police hotlines 999, 911, or 112.
“Every piece of information is valuable,” the DCI added, emphasising the importance of public cooperation in bringing the suspect to justice.
Jumaisi escaped alongside 12 other suspects from Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi, prompting the suspension of eight police officers and the charging of five in court over the escape. Police described the breakout as facilitated by insiders.
Last year, authorities revealed that Jumaisi had confessed to murdering 42 women, including his wife, since 2022. His lawyer, however, claimed the suspect had been tortured into confessing. The police said the victims, aged between 18 and 30, were killed similarly, highlighting the severity of the crimes.
The escape of a high-profile suspect described by police as a “psychopathic serial killer” sparked outrage among Kenyans who accused the DCI of aiding in the act. According to a police incident report, the 13 suspects broke out by cutting through a wire mesh roof and scaling a perimeter wall.
Gigiri Police Station is located about 10km from Nairobi’s city centre, in a diplomatic area housing the UN regional headquarters and several embassies.
The DCI also confirmed that Jumaisi hails from Shiru Sublocation, Shaviringa Location, Hamisi Subcounty, Vihiga County, and emphasised the urgency of his re-arrest.
Director of DCI Mohamed Amin confirmed the escape and said a fresh hunt had been launched.
“It is unfortunate this has happened, but we are pursuing the matter for action,” he said.
Jumaisi had been remanded at Gigiri Police Station pending plea taking. Authorities discovered his escape during the morning roll call when the suspects failed to be present in their cells.
