My role was to help fight Uhuru, bring Ruto to power - Gachagua laments

Deputy Gachagua Rigathi Gachagua now claims that he has come to the realisation that he was used to settle scores between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and incumbent William Ruto during the 2022 presidential campaigns.

Speaking at his Karen home on Monday, the DP claimed that the current administration currently finds him unuseful, having fulfilled their 'selfish interests'.

"A decision has been made that Gachagua is no longer useful to this administration. I am now seen as a spent cartridge. My role was to help fight Uhuru Kenyatta and bring Ruto to power, but now that mission is over."

"They want to discard me and appoint someone else, disregarding the will of Kenyans," he added.

Gachagua has several times apologised to the former President, even calling him 'one of their (Mt Kenya) sons', in efforts to seal a truce between them.

During the campaigns, he accused Uhuru of coercing investigative agencies to arrest him and charge him with false accusations, including corruption.

"Myself and the mountain people, feel very bad that we punished Uhuru Kenyatta. We demeaned him, we told him off, we embarrassed him for telling us that Raila Odinga is a good man. And we were very brutal with him, and we hammered him,” Gachagua said during an interview on Citizen TV in September this year.

He added that Uhuru had forgiven him. However, Jubilee Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni refuted the claims, adding that Uhuru had never met Gachagua nor forgiven him.

“Anyone going around the country claiming that he asked for forgiveness and has been forgiven is a liar. Uhuru has not met any of them and has not held any discussions with them,” Kioni stated while addressing the press at Jubilee offices in Nairobi in September.

Meanwhile, Gachagua claimed that the accusations tabled against him in Parliament in the impeachment motion tabled by Kibwezi MP Mwengi Mutuse are baseless.

He added that the impeachment motion will be the most sensational forum in Kenya based on 'trash'. Gachagua also added that President William Ruto has never spoken to him face to face and accused him of undermining him as claimed by MP Mutuse.

"If Ruto told MP Mutuse that I undermined him, let him tell us so. Ruto has never accused me of undermining him," Gachagua argued.

MPs will vote on the impeachment motion tomorrow after, offering Gachagua two hours to defend himself. Gachagua stated that he will honour the summons but requested being allowed to speak without interruptions.
