Five-day forecast predicts intense rainfall across the country
The weatherman’s report indicates that counties in the western, Rift Valley, and parts of the central region will be hardest hit, with continuous rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms expected both during the day and at night.
Several regions across Kenya are expected to receive heavy and persistent rainfall this week, according to a forecast released by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The five-day outlook running from Tuesday, October 28, to Saturday, November 1, warns that intense rains and strong winds will affect most parts of the country, including major urban areas such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru.

The weatherman’s report indicates that counties in the western, Rift Valley, and parts of the central region will be hardest hit, with continuous rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms expected both during the day and at night.
Areas set to experience these conditions include Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Kericho, Narok, Bomet, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, and West Pokot.
Temperatures in these regions will range between 8°C at night and 31°C during the day.
The Department further cautioned that strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots will sweep across coastal, northeastern, and northwestern areas.
This could worsen conditions in regions already prone to flooding and hinder transport along key highways and rural roads.
In central Kenya, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi are also forecast to receive steady rainfall throughout the week.
Both day and night showers are expected, with temperatures dropping to as low as 5°C in some highland areas.
Counties in the eastern region, such as Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, are expected to remain slightly warmer despite the rains.
These areas will record maximum temperatures of around 32°C and minimums of about 13°C. The inland parts of Tana River County are projected to experience similar conditions.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and parts of Tana River, will have light to moderate showers throughout the week, both during the day and at night.
The region will experience warm weather with temperatures averaging between 22°C and 33°C.
Further north, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, and Isiolo counties will receive rainfall through the week, with daytime temperatures peaking at 37°C and night temperatures dropping to around 16°C.
Turkana and Samburu will also experience periodic rains and showers over the same period, with highs of 37°C and lows of 8°C.
The Department has urged Kenyans, especially those in flood-prone and low-lying regions, to remain cautious and stay informed on daily updates to avoid weather-related risks.
