Nyaga added that the Service has developed a robust plan involving all police units and coordinated with other government agencies.
"Among the measures include an increase in visible and proactive police patrols in all counties, focusing on urban centres, recreational spots, shopping areas, places of worship, and major transport hubs," he said.
He noted that the measures will also include enhanced surveillance and screening along the border points, airports, and other critical infrastructure sites.
"These measures are complemented by specialised units and undercover officers in our proactive efforts to prevent criminal activities or incidents that may disrupt the festivities," he added.
Additionally, the traffic department will intensify enforcement of traffic laws nationwide, with strict action taken against offenders found speeding, drunk driving, dangerously overtaking, operating unroadworthy vehicles, or failing to comply with public service vehicle regulations.
Towards this, designated checkpoints will be established along all major highways for compliance checks.
"We urge all motorists to observe speed limits, ensure their vehicles are well-maintained, and always wear safety belts. Public Service Vehicles must strictly adhere to the stipulated carrying capacities and all other regulations," said Nyaga.
He added, "The NPS, in conjunction with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and other partners, to enhance emergency response and ensure compliance. We therefore urge Kenyans and visitors to cooperate with us by adhering to the law and exercising personal responsibility. Let us celebrate responsibly and ensure we all usher in the new year safely."
Nyaga further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities via the toll-free hotline 999, 911, or 112.
"Anonymous reports can also be made using Fichua kwa DCI on 0800722203 or via WhatsApp on 0709570000. The NPS reaffirms its unwavering dedication to serving and protecting the public and also takes this opportunity to wish everyone a joyful, peaceful, and safe festive season," he added.
