Police arrest three suspects over attack at Chemelil Academy in Muhoroni

Officers responding to the attack said they arrived at the school and spotted around 20 men, armed with crude weapons, fleeing in different directions, some heading towards Achego while others vanished into the nearby sugarcane fields.

Police have arrested three suspects linked to Thursday’s brazen act of violence at Chemelil Academy in Muhoroni Sub-County that left a trail of chaos and destruction.
The DCI said the three, Bernard Ouma, Thomas Onyango Ouma, and Walter Owa, aka Teddy Obul, were nabbed at various locations within Chemelil by police officers who were trailing the gang behind the attack after the incident.
“These three are now in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, officers are tirelessly pursuing additional leads to trail and apprehend the other suspects still on the run,” said the DCI.
Officers responding to the attack said they arrived at the school and spotted around 20 men, armed with crude weapons, fleeing in different directions, some heading towards Achego, while others vanished into the nearby sugarcane fields.
“Upon arrival, officers were confronted with a scene of devastation. The gang had wreaked havoc, smashing their way into the administration block and vandalising the offices of the Principal and Deputy Principal. The assailants not only terrorised the staff but also assaulted them, making off with 10 smartphones, cash, and other valuables,” the DCI explained.

The officers then launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of the three through intelligence leads.
Injured staff members were swiftly taken to Nyang'oma Sub-County Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment in stable condition.
Witnesses later said that the suspects, armed with crude weapons, gained entry into the school in the morning hours as students returned from the half-term break, forcing the school's chief principal, Abisai Samora, to make a distress call to the police, alerting them that the institution was under attack.
No student was injured during the incident, and all have since been accounted for.
