Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) began their quest for silverware at the 26th Genocide Memorial Volleyball Tournament with an emphatic straight-sets victory over hosts Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) in Kigali on Thursday.
The Kenyan side, fresh from securing a bronze medal at the African Club Championship, displayed their class and experience throughout the contest, cruising to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 win to get their campaign off to the perfect start.
KPC were in control from the opening exchanges, dominating the service line and dictating the pace of play through well-organised defensive structures and effective attacking combinations. The Rwandan hosts struggled to cope with the visitors' intensity as KPC repeatedly won key rallies and maintained pressure at the net.
The first set saw KPC establish an early rhythm before pulling away to claim a comfortable eight-point advantage. RRA attempted to respond in the second set, but the Kenyan outfit remained composed, limiting errors and capitalising on crucial moments to extend their dominance.

With confidence flowing, KPC maintained their high level in the third set, combining strong blocking and accurate finishing to close out the match without allowing the hosts a route back into the contest.
The victory provides an ideal platform for the Kenyan giants in a tournament that has grown into one of the region's premier volleyball events. This year's edition has attracted 14 clubs across the men's and women's categories, bringing together some of East Africa's strongest teams alongside invited sides from beyond the region.
The women's competition features defending champions Police WVC, APR WVC, Rwanda Revenue Authority, Uganda's KCB Nkumba and Kenya Pipeline, while the men's draw includes reigning champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG), APR VC, Police VC, Kepler VC, Gisagara VC, RP Ngoma VC, Uganda's Sky Volleyball Club and Beninese side Finance VC.
Finance VC's participation marks a significant milestone for the competition, with the Benin club becoming one of the first teams from outside the East African region to take part in the tournament.
Organised by the Rwanda Volleyball Federation in partnership with the Rwanda National Olympic Committee, the annual event forms part of the commemoration activities honouring victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi through sport. The tournament runs from June 19 to June 21 and is being played in a format that includes preliminary pool matches before the competition progresses to the knockout rounds and ultimately the finals.
For KPC, the convincing victory sends an early message to their rivals. Having opened their campaign with a commanding performance against the hosts, the Kenyan side will now look to carry that momentum into the remaining fixtures as they target a deep run and potentially the tournament title in Kigali.
