Instagram is rolling out a new feature that could significantly change how users create carousel posts by allowing separate captions for each photo or video within a carousel.
The update marks a departure from Instagram’s traditional carousel format, where all images and videos share a single caption beneath the post.
Under the new feature, creators can add unique text to each slide, providing context, commentary, product information, or storytelling elements that appear alongside specific images.
Screenshots shared by early testers show a notification inside Instagram’s post composer informing users that they can now add “a caption for each photo or video in your post”.
Users can reportedly choose either a single caption for the entire carousel or assign individual captions to each frame.
How the slide caption feature will work
The implementation adds a small choice panel inside the final composer stage. You can begin organising a post through the standard procedure below:
1. Open the application and choose multiple files from your gallery to create a carousel block.
2. Proceed through the filters to reach the final share screen, where you write the caption
3. Tap the caption section to reveal the new structural toggle.
4. Select between the Single Caption option and the Multiple Captions configuration.
5. Swipe through each image sequentially to type your dedicated notes.
6. Publish the post to let followers see your context shift automatically as they slide across the media.
The feature is expected to be particularly useful for content creators, educators, brands, and businesses that rely on carousel posts to share detailed information.
Instead of packing explanations into a long caption, users can spread information across slides, making content easier to follow and potentially boosting engagement.
For example, travel creators could describe each destination individually, educators could explain concepts step‑by‑step, and online retailers could provide item‑specific product details, including different prices, within a carousel.
Earlier this month, the platform introduced the ability to reorder carousel slides after publication, giving creators greater flexibility in managing content performance.
The feature may also reduce the need for text-heavy graphics by allowing explanations to appear directly within the carousel experience.
Despite growing interest among creators, Instagram has not officially announced a timeline for a wider rollout. Users are expected to see the effect in the coming weeks or months, depending on their device and region.
