Amisi confirmed that Njagi was alive and appealed to the judiciary to handle his case fairly and allow him to return to his family.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called for the release of activist Bob Njagi, claiming he is unfairly being charged with treason while he was going about his normal business when he was arrested in Kitengela.
Speaking after visiting him at Isinya Police Station in Kajiado County, Amisi confirmed that Njagi was alive and appealed to the judiciary to handle his case fairly and allow him to return to his family.
Amisi said the visit was meant to assure Kenyans, especially young people who had been asking about Njagi’s whereabouts, that the activist was safe.
“Bob Njagi was arrested when he was taking a cup of tea in Kitengela for reasons he does not know. He was not told what he had done, he was not in the maandamano, he never demonstrated, he was just arrested when he was going about his business in Kitengela,” he claimed.
“So we were worried, as Gen Z are out there asking, Where is our comrade? So we want to attest and confirm to the youth of the country that yes, indeed, we have seen Bob Njagi is alive and kicking, and we want to thank God for preserving his life. And we’ve seen him, we’ve talked, we’ve encouraged him.”
Amisi urged young people to attend Njagi’s court appearance in Kajiado on Thursday and appealed to the judicial system to release him.
“We are telling the young people, let’s meet in court on Thursday in court, and go and escort our comrade. And we ask the judicial system to do justice and allow our comrade back, because they have charged him with treason,” he said.
He argued that treason is one of the country’s most serious offences and should not be used without meeting the required legal threshold.
“Treason is a serious crime in this country. You cannot just pick somebody, a Kenyan, taking tea and putting treason charges on him. Treason has parameters; the legal parameters of treason are quite high. So you cannot just pick up a Kenyan and put treason charges on him,” he said.
“So we want to ask the judges who will be overseeing the case of Njagi to see it, that this is a comrade who was fighting for something good for this country. On that fateful day, he was not on the streets; he was just going about his business, and he cannot be a candidate for prison judges.”
The legislator further appealed to the judiciary to show mercy and allow Njagi to reunite with his family.
“We just ask the judges and the judiciary to have all the mercy on our comrade and release him on Thursday, so that he can go back to his family, to his children. They are not aware; he’s not a thief, he has not killed anybody, he has not stolen anybody’s property. They have seen their father as a good father,” he said.
Kajiado court allowed police to detain Njagi for seven more days to enable detectives to complete investigations into allegations of incitement linked to the Gen Z memorial protests.
Senior Principal Magistrate S. Mwangi declined a police request to hold him for 14 days and instead ordered that he remain in custody at Isinya Police Station until July 2, 2026.
Njagi is expected to return to court next Wednesday to take a plea.
Police allege that Njagi circulated videos on social media that incited young people to take part in the Gen Z memorial protests held in Kitengela on Thursday.
More than 100 other suspects arrested during Wednesday’s and Thursday’s operations, including activist Aslam Longton, are also expected to appear before the Kajiado Law Courts on Friday.
The suspects were arrested during a two-day police operation targeting people who took part in demonstrations marking the anniversary of the 2024/2025 Gen Z protests.
Police say they are expected to face various charges, including unlawful assembly.
