Transport hitch as floods wash away parts of Garissa-Mombasa Road
The flash floods damaged three separate parts of the road causing a major traffic snarl-up of vehicles from Garissa, Hola, Bura North, Masalani and Mombasa areas.
Hundreds of passengers have been left stranded at Jaredende and Dukanoti in Bura North sub-county of Tana River County after heavy rains washed away a section of the Garissa-Mombasa road.

Sahara Abdiwahab, a resident of Dukanoti who spoke to the Eastleigh Voice, said the situation was frustrating and most of the travellers did not know what to do next.

“They are desperately stranded as they wait to see the possibility of off-road navigation after the water subsides but I don't think they can make it," said Sahara.

The damaged Garissa-Mombasa road is yet another devastative blow to the North Eastern region and Tana River county residents who are already grappling with the consequences of the damaged major roads of the Thika-Nairobi and Nuno-Madigashe roads that link several counties to Nairobi and Mombasa as a result of floods.
Apart from the three major roads that link the counties, more feeder roads in the Sub Counties of Northern and Coast regions have been cut off resulting in food and drug shortages.

This comes on the same day North Eastern and Tana River MPs called for urgent intervention over the effects of the El Nino rains and demanded that the government declare the floods a national disaster.
They also appealed for the deployment of helicopters to deliver food and drugs due to the damaged roads in the region.
