Government announces recruitment for prison constables, professional officers across all 47 counties

Candidates will undergo a para-military initial training lasting no less than nine months.
The government has announced the recruitment exercise for prison constables, professional cadet officers, technicians, and artisans, which will take place on April 30, 2025, across all 47 counties.
The exercise, which is open to both male and female candidates, will be held in counties including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Mandera, Wajir, and Taita Taveta.

According to Prisons Commissioner General Patrick Aranduh, the recruitment for prison constables will follow specific eligibility criteria.
He noted that prospective candidates must be Kenyan citizens with a valid National Identification card and no criminal record.
Additionally, applicants should have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of D+ and be between the ages of 18 and 28.
“Men must be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall, and women must be at least 5 feet 2 inches tall,” he said.
Candidates are also required to be physically and mentally fit, with good hearing and clear vision.
“Female candidates must not be pregnant during the recruitment or training periods,” Aranduh said.
He emphasised that on recruitment, candidates will undergo a para-military initial training lasting no less than nine months.
The recruitment process is completely free of charge, and the government has warned against corruption, noting that any individual caught presenting falsified documents or engaging in corrupt practices will be disqualified and prosecuted.
“Bribery and other acts of corruption are unlawful. Any person presenting themselves for recruitment with falsified documents or engaging in corrupt practices will be disqualified and prosecuted,” Aranduh said.
He further warned that recruitment will only take place at the designated centers on the specified date and urged candidates to bring their original documents, including their National IDs, birth certificates, academic certificates, KRA PIN and other relevant testimonials.

In Mombasa, the recruitment will occur at Likoni Approved Grounds, Mvita Grounds, Nyali A.S.K Show Ground, Kisauni DCC’s Office, Changamwe Oil Refineries and Jomvu NYS Mamlai Grounds.
In Kwale County, recruitment will be held at Matuga Baraza Park, Kinango Vurungani Stadium, Lungalunga Lunga Lunga Stadium/Grounds, Msambweni Stadium, Simbahills DCC’s Office, and Samburu DCC’s Office.
Nairobi County will host the recruitment at various locations, including Lang’ata's Nyayo Stadium, Dagoreti North Ndurarua Stadium, Dagoreti South Ndurarua Stadium, Westlands Gigiri DCC’s Office, Starehe Pumwani Playground, Mathare Police Depot Playground, Roysambu Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, Ruaraka DCC’s Office, Makadara City Stadium and Embakasi Central Huruma Ground.
Other locations include Shepherd Grounds, Embakasi Jacaranda Grounds, Tena Grounds, Embakasi South Vision Grounds/Makao Bora, Kamukunji Sports Grounds, Njiru Sub-County DCC’s Office, Kasarani Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, NYS Headquarters Ruaraka, and PSTC Ruiru Sportsmen/Women.
In addition to the recruitment for prison constables, the government has also announced vacancies for professional cadet officers, technicians and artisans. The positions include roles such as medical officers, psychiatrists, pharmacists, dentists, architects, physical planners, civil engineers, quantity surveyors, and counselling psychologists, among others.
The recruitment criteria for professional cadet officers require candidates to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised institution.
In addition, technicians must possess a relevant diploma or certificate from an accredited institution, while Artisans must have at least a KCSE mean grade of D+ and relevant certificates in government trade test or craft courses.
Applicants for all positions must fill out the PSC.2 form (Revised 2007), which can be downloaded from the Public Service Commission website.
The Commissioner General said completed applications should be addressed to: The Commissioner General of Prisons Prisons Headquarters P.O. Box 30175-0100, Nairobi.
“Applications should be submitted before 5 pm on April 30, 2025, and delivered to the Prisons Headquarters, located on Bishops Road, Community Area,” he said.
He noted that successfully shortlisted candidates will be notified via print media.
