The men’s final between General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) heads to a decisive third game after KPA levelled the series with a 3-1 win. The Dockers, who had lost in straight sets in their earlier encounter, edged the first set 25-23, narrowly lost the second, then took control of the third and fourth sets 25-16 and 25-19 to keep their championship hopes alive.
On the women’s side, Kenya Pipeline were crowned champions after edging out Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a five-set thriller to win the best-of-three series 2-0. After a straight-sets victory in Game One, Pipeline were pushed to the limit in Game Two. DCI took the first and third sets 25-21 and 25-18, but Pipeline held their nerve to win the second and fourth sets 25-21 before sealing the decider 15-11. It was Pipeline’s first league title since 2022, while DCI celebrated their maiden podium finish.
In the women’s bronze match, KCB recovered from an opening-set loss to defeat Kenya Prisons 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-20, 25-10), ending a difficult season on a high. KCB head coach Japheth Munala acknowledged the challenges faced during the season but praised his players’ resilience.
“It’s not the position we were looking for from the beginning, but we thank God we got something,” said Munala. “The way the girls played today shows what we can build on for the next season.”
Kenya Prisons head coach Josp Barasa cited poor reception and squad limitations as key factors in their fourth-place finish.
“Our best was not good enough. There were areas that didn’t work well, especially reception,” said Barasa. “Two of my players are in college and couldn’t train regularly. That affected our rhythm.”
Pipeline dominates Women’s League Awards
Kenya Pipeline’s title-winning season was further highlighted by a dominant performance in the individual awards, with the team scooping five of the seven honours on offer in the 2024/25 KVF Women’s League.
Star outside hitter Daisy Letting was named Most Valuable Player, rewarded for her leadership, consistency, and clutch performances throughout the season.
Emmaculate Nekesa earned the Best Setter award for her precise ball distribution and ability to control the tempo of matches, while captain Gladys Ekaru was named Best Middle Blocker, anchoring the net with strong blocks and a commanding presence.
Loice Simiyu took home the Best Opposite title thanks to her relentless attacking and unmatched determination on the right flank.
DCI’s Sharon Jeruto broke Pipeline’s streak by claiming the Best Outside Hitter award, recognised for her aggressive net play and composure in the air. Her teammate Sarah Namisi was named Best Server after consistently putting opponents under pressure with well-placed, powerful deliveries.
KCB’s Lincy Jeruto rounded off the winners’ list as Best Libero, recognised for her sharp anticipation, reliable defence, and calm presence in the backcourt.
With the league concluded and standout individuals honoured, teams will now turn their attention to rebuilding and strengthening ahead of the next season.
