The stage is set for a thrilling Kenya Cup final as familiar adversaries, KCB and Kabras Sugar, secured their spots with impressive semifinal victories

Defending champions Kabras Sugar showcased their dominance yet again, securing a place in their ninth consecutive Kenya Cup final with a commanding 37-9 victory over Nondescript at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The match kicked off with Ntabeni Dukisa's precision, as he notched a penalty to give Kabras a 3-0 lead. Griffin Chao's try, converted by Dukisa, extended Kabras' lead to 10-0 early on. Despite Nondies' efforts, highlighted by Nyaenya Moseti's penalty, Kabras maintained their stronghold, leading 15-6 at halftime.

The hosts continued to dominate in the second half, with unconverted tries from Brian Tanga and George Nyambua pushing their lead to 25-6. Although Moseti added another penalty for Nondies, Kabras remained relentless, sealing their victory with late tries from Chao and Bryceson Adaka, confirmed by Dukisa's conversion.

With the win secured, Kabras Sugar sets their sights on the final showdown against KCB on April 6 at the same venue, promising a clash of titans.

KCB grinds out victory against Menengai Oilers

In a tightly contested semifinal at the KCB Sports Club on the same day, KCB battled past Menengai Oilers to book their place in the Kenya Cup final with a hard-fought 21-12 triumph.

The match saw Darwin Mukidza putting KCB ahead with a penalty midway through the first half. However, Menengai Oilers responded with two Abutwalib Wesonga penalties, taking a 6-3 lead in a fiercely competitive encounter.

As halftime approached, Vincent Onyala's crucial try swung the momentum back in KCB's favor, giving them an 8-6 lead at the break. The second half unfolded with both teams locked in a tense struggle, trading penalties as the scoreboard read 14-12 in KCB's favor.

With the match hanging in the balance, a decisive moment came late in the game when Oilers lost a crucial lineout. Persian Kolian's decisive run and offload to Bob Muhati resulted in a try under the posts, securing victory for KCB. Mike Wamalwa's conversion confirmed the 21-12 win and a berth in the final against Kabras Sugar.
