Safaricom Chapa Dimba, launched in 2017 in partnership with the Football Kenya Federation, is a national grassroots football tournament targeting players aged 16–20.

A total of 25 Kenyan youth footballers from across the country have been selected to represent Kenya at the Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars international football camp in Spain, set to kick off next week.

The week-long camp will provide players with professional training, competitive matches, and mentorship sessions designed to advance their football careers.

The All-Stars team—comprising 13 boys and 12 girls—will depart Nairobi on Saturday evening, September 6, for Huesca, Spain. Initially, 32 players were chosen, but seven have since earned call-ups to national and international clubs, leaving 25 to travel to the camp.

Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa said the programme continues to create opportunities for Kenyan youth by offering international exposure and pathways into professional football.

“Chapa Dimba has always been about opening doors of opportunity for Kenyan youth, and today, we are proud to see that vision come alive in an even bigger way. Not only are these young players travelling to Spain to sharpen their skills, but many of their teammates have also earned call-ups to top national and international clubs,” Ndegwa said.

Immense pride

“To see players like Austin Odongo, Emily Moranga, and Khamis Nyale break into professional clubs, while others take this next big step in Spain, fills us with immense pride. This is the heartbeat of Safaricom Chapa Dimba: empowering our youth, transforming their lives, and showcasing Kenyan football talent to the world.”

In Spain, the players will train at the Base Aragonesa de Fútbol, S.D. Huesca’s modern sports facility.

They will also face Huesca’s Youth Academy in friendly matches, attend masterclasses led by professional footballers, and watch a Segunda Division fixture between SD Huesca and Málaga CF. Their itinerary also includes cultural activities such as sightseeing and city tours.

“Visiting Spain and experiencing world-class football has always been a dream, and now it is becoming a reality. I am determined to make the most of this opportunity, learn as much as possible and use the lessons to grow my football career,” said Swaumu Masungo, one of the selected players.

The boys’ team will be captained by Stanley Waswa of Ndura Sports Academy, while Manda Sunira Were of Highland Royals Moi Girls will lead the girls’ side. Coaches Chrispine Odindo (Plateau Queens) and Evans Oketch (Obunga FC) will accompany the squad, together with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials.
