Gor Mahia AGM scheduled for April as leadership wrangles persist

Gor Mahia Football Club has officially scheduled its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for April 13, 2025, at the Basketball Arena, Nyayo National Stadium. A key highlight of the meeting will be the long-overdue club elections, which have been delayed for months, sparking leadership disputes. Gor Mahia Football Club has set its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for April 13, 2025, at the Basketball Arena, Nyayo National Stadium, starting at 7:00 AM.
According to a club statement, the agenda includes the reading of the AGM notice by the Hon. Secretary, confirmation of previous AGM minutes, adoption of the Chairman’s report, and approval of the Audited Financial Statements for 2025. Members will also appoint auditors and deliberate on the Transition Committee’s Report, which, if approved, will be formally adopted.
A key highlight of the meeting will be the long-awaited club elections, which could redefine Gor Mahia’s leadership. The AGM is being convened under Article 16 (1) (b) of the club’s 2019 Constitution, which mandates Executive Committee approval for financial disbursements.

This announcement follows a prolonged leadership impasse, marked by election delays and governance disputes.
Rachier’s prolonged tenure under fire
Gor Mahia, one of Kenya’s most successful clubs, has grappled with leadership uncertainty, with chairman Ambrose Rachier extending his tenure to 16 years since his election in 2008. Critics argue that his prolonged stay contradicts the principle of leadership transition.
Among those pushing for change is club treasurer Dolphina Odhiambo, who has accused Rachier of intentionally delaying elections. "The elections should have taken place last August, but the chairman deliberately postponed them to extend his term illegally," she said in an interview.
In July 2024, Secretary-General Sam Ochola announced his candidacy for chairman, emphasising the need to enforce the club’s 2017 Constitution, which limits term durations. Elections were initially planned for September 2024, but they never materialised.
By January 2025, the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) ruled that the Executive Committee’s mandate had expired on August 8, 2024, and ordered elections within 90 days. The tribunal cited governance failures, including the club’s failure to amend its constitution as required by the Sports Act of 2013.
Despite the ruling, elections have yet to take place. However, with the AGM now set for April 2025, Gor Mahia fans and stakeholders will be watching closely to see if the club finally transitions to new leadership.
