KCB eye back-to-back wins as they host Mathare United at Kasarani Annex

Both teams are chasing early momentum in the 2025/26 season, with KCB looking to build on a strong start and Mathare eager to bounce back from an opening-day setback.

The second round of the SportPesa League continues today with KCB taking on Mathare United at the Kasarani Annex from 3:00 pm.

Both teams are chasing early momentum in the 2025/26 season, with KCB looking to build on a strong start and Mathare eager to bounce back from an opening-day setback.

KCB began their campaign in style, defeating Tusker FC 2-0 thanks to a brace from Boniface Omondi. The bankers, who currently sit third on the table with three points, showcased defensive solidity and sharp attacking transitions, making them one of the early-season teams to watch.

Their midfield, led by the experienced Humphrey Mieno, will once again be key in dictating tempo and supplying their wide players, whose pace and crossing ability have been central to their play.

Mathare United, on the other hand, fell 2-1 to Posta Rangers in their opener. Despite enjoying more possession, defensive lapses proved costly, and their forwards struggled to convert chances.

Head coach John Kamau is expected to tweak his approach after shifting formations in the first game, while the creative spark of Elly Asieche and the pace of Paul Kinyanjui could be crucial if the Slum Boys are to unlock KCB’s well-drilled defence.

However, doubts remain over forward Musa Masika’s availability, a significant concern given his importance in attack last season.

Historically, KCB have enjoyed the upper hand in this fixture, winning 10 of their past meetings compared to Mathare’s 6 victories, with 8 draws recorded. More recently, the bankers have dominated, winning the majority of their last six clashes against the Slum Boys.

With recent form, home advantage, and a strong head-to-head record, KCB will head into today’s clash as favourites. But Mathare United will be determined to upset the odds and register their first points of the season, making for an intriguing early-season contest.
