On the main pitch, KCB and APS Bomet served up an entertaining contest that swung dramatically in both directions. The Bankers started on the front foot and threatened early through Boniface Omondi ‘Bajaj’ and Richard Omondi, but it was APS Bomet who struck first in the 21st minute. Philip Wasai capitalised on a KCB defensive error to give the Black Berets a 1–0 lead.
KCB hit back in the 27th minute when Etemesi danced past a defender before unleashing a powerful strike to draw the Bankers level. However, APS Bomet regained the advantage in the 33rd minute as Wasai completed his brace, sending the visitors into halftime with a 2–1 lead.
The second half belonged to KCB. Etemesi pulled his side level again in the 50th minute, reacting quickest from a corner to make it 2–2. Three minutes later, Richard Omondi completed the turnaround with a fine long-range effort that found the far corner.
Etemesi sealed a memorable afternoon in the 60th minute when he raced onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Bajaj and fired home his third goal to make it 4–2. The forward’s celebrations earned him a yellow card, but it did little to dampen KCB’s dominance as they comfortably saw out the remainder of the match.
Earlier at the Kasarani Annex, Posta Rangers missed a golden opportunity to climb to the summit after being held to a barren draw by Bandari FC. The Mailmen dominated possession and territory for large spells but were undone by wasteful finishing and a disciplined Bandari defence.
Posta started brightly, with Brian Chonjo and Caleb Olilo combining well in attack, while Bandari grew into the contest and came close through Abdallah Hassan, whose effort struck the side netting midway through the first half. Chonjo later had a goal-bound effort blocked in the closing stages of the opening period.
In the second half, Posta increased the tempo, with Chonjo and Jackson Dwang firing narrowly wide before interim coach Collins ‘Korea’ Omondi introduced Vincent Wasambo and Eliud Lokuwam in search of a breakthrough. The substitutes nearly combined for a late winner, but Lokuwam’s effort brushed the crossbar as Bandari survived the scare.
The draw leaves Posta Rangers third on 21 points, level with leaders Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC but behind on goal difference. Bandari remain under pressure near the bottom of the table after extending their winless run to five matches.
KCB’s victory sees them move to the top of the FKF Premier League standings on 21 points, level with Kenya Police, Tusker, and Posta Rangers, with goal difference separating the four sides at the summit.
