CS Murkomen wants toll stations introduced on major roads
Motorists who don’t want to pay for road use were told to use alternative roads.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday proposed the introduction of new toll stations on major highways.
This, he said, is in a bid to aid in raising funds for the construction and rehabilitation of roads countrywide.

He spoke during the launch of the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) 2023-2027 Strategic Plan.
The CS said that Athi River-Namanga Road and Galleria-Rongai-Ngong-Karen Shopping Centre were on the list of roads that would have toll stations.
"I believe that we can toll the road from Athiriver to Namanga, I believe that it is possible to toll the road from Galleria to Rongai to Ngong and back to Karen Shopping Centre. I believe also that it is possible to expand and toll the road of Kiambu road," he said.
Motorists who don’t want to pay for road use were told to use alternative roads.
"The good news is that there are so many alternative routes along this corridor that those who don’t wish to pay toll fees, we’ll give them those alternative roads," he said.
Murkomen said the government is committed to raising alternative funds for the improvement of road networks across the country.
“We must be innovative as a country if we are to ensure a quality and sustainable road network. The current funding models, including the Roads Maintenance Levy, will no longer be sufficient,” he said.
“We will make sure that, from all those tolled roads, the resources are transferred back to the people of Kenya by giving them quality roads,” he added.
