The three-month programme was funded by the Kamukunji NG-CDF under the Kamukunji Constituency Youth Empowerment Programme.

More than 300 youths have graduated with various vocational skills at the YMCA National Training Institute in Shauri Moyo. The graduates were trained in areas including cosmetology, fashion and design, caregiving and basic life support, private security, food and beverage production, photography and videography, as well as building and construction and electrical and electronics engineering. The three-month programme was funded by the Kamukunji NG-CDF under the Kamukunji Constituency Youth Empowerment Programme.
GILGIL HOLDS FUNERAL MASS FOR 16 STUDENTS
Tears and grief filled Gilgil Stadium on Friday as families, friends, and leaders gathered for the funeral mass of 16 students who died in a dormitory fire. White caskets carrying the girls were brought into the stadium and placed under tents for the service. Mourners struggled with the loss as counsellors and emergency teams offered psychosocial support. Among those present were First Lady Rachel Ruto and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The tragedy occurred on May 28 and also left 79 students injured.
TOBACCO CONTROL AMENDMENT BILL
The Kenya Tobacco and Nicotine Tax Coalition has expressed support for the Tobacco Control (Amendment) Bill, Senate Bill No. 35 of 2024. The coalition is urging the National Assembly to retain the proposed strong regulatory measures and adopt recommendations from tobacco control stakeholders. It has also called for the urgent conclusion of the public participation process and the forwarding of the bill to the Senate for final consideration and passage. The coalition says the measures will strengthen tobacco control efforts and protect public health.

DIGITAL HUB LAUNCHED TO BOOST YOUTH SKILLS
The Technopolis Development Authority has launched the Ol Kalou Jitume Digital Hub at Ol Kalou Technical and Vocational College in Nyandarua County. The facility becomes the 112th hub established by the Authority across the country. It is designed to expand digital access and equip young people with skills for the growing digital economy. The hub has 50 devices and will offer digital training, innovation support, online work opportunities, and entrepreneurship programmes. During the launch, 106 trainees graduated from the Jitume Digital Enablement Programme, while 200 beneficiaries received support through the initiative.
SPORTS COMPETITIONS
Parents have been urged to support their children in nurturing sporting talents alongside academic development. Speaking during the Sub-County Level Sports Competitions at Kajiuduthi Boys’ School grounds in Muthambi Ward, Maara Constituency, Mugona Senior School sports coordinator Morris Munene said some students may struggle academically but excel in sports. Munene noted that sports provide alternative opportunities for learners and help reduce stress while improving their overall well-being. He encouraged parents to identify and support talents displayed by their children.
BANDITS KILL FARMER IN MERU
A manhunt is underway in Meru County after bandits killed a farmer and injured a senior police officer during a cattle raid in Mutuati Sub-County. The attackers raided the Northern Grazing Zone on Tuesday afternoon and made away with an unknown number of cattle. Mutuati Assistant County Commissioner Moses Lerionka confirmed that the bandits shot dead farmer Kabaara while he was working on his farm. A multi-agency security team comprising police, the General Service Unit and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit pursued the attackers, leading to a shootout where the Mutuati Police Station OCS was injured.
