Roseline Kahega, a house help from Vihiga County, has admitted to the theft of Sh1 million from her employer's residence in California, Eastleigh. She appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi on Tuesday and faced charges of stealing, as outlined in section 268 (1) read with section 275 of the Penal Code.

According to the allegations, Kahega, who was hired to clean the house, pilfered the substantial sum from her employer, Libin Abdi Mohamed, on October 13, 2023. The money, totaling Sh1,050,000, was intended to fund Mohamed's impending surgical operation in India. The cash, a combination of donations from family and friends through international money transfer platforms, was being safeguarded in Mohamed's residence in anticipation of her medical trip.

Upon discovering the disappearance of the substantial funds, Mohamed promptly reported the matter to the California Police Station. An investigation was swiftly launched, leading to the subsequent apprehension of Kahega as she was en route to Mbale town, as indicated on her bus ticket. Law enforcement officers discovered her in possession of a silver purse containing a significant sum of money, alongside the recovery of a bracelet belonging to Mohamed.

After a brief detainment at Kericho Police Station, Kahega was subsequently transferred to Shauri Moyo Police Station in Nairobi on October 16. The case is scheduled to continue on Wednesday, with the prosecution expected to present their evidence against the accused.
