Egypt announces gas discovery near production facilities in Nile Delta

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources says the Nidoco N-2 exploratory well in West Abu Madi, Kafr El-Sheikh, found gas expected to produce about 50 million cubic feet per day. The field is less than 2 km from existing facilities.

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced a new gas discovery in the Nile Delta region in northern Egypt.
In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said the discovery is expected to produce around 50 million cubic feet of gas per day and is located less than two kilometres from the nearest production facilities, allowing for rapid connection to the national production network within a few weeks.
The find was made following the successful drilling of the exploratory well Nidoco N-2 in the West Abu Madi area in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate. The well is situated about three kilometres offshore in shallow waters, at a depth of approximately 10 metres.
The concession area is operated by Italy’s energy company Eni in partnership with Britain’s BP and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, through Petrobel.
The Egyptian government has been working to boost oil and gas output after a decline in natural gas production in recent years. In August 2025, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt’s gas production currently stands at 4.1 billion cubic feet per day, with a target of 6.6 billion cubic feet per day by 2027.

The ministry also said Egypt plans to drill more than 100 exploratory wells this year as part of efforts to secure new energy reserves.
