Kenya's athletes have been urged to compete with pride, discipline and unity as they prepare to depart for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) Vice-President Barnaba Korir expressed confidence in Team Kenya's ability to excel, urging the athletes to represent the country with determination and honour on the international stage.
Speaking on behalf of NOCK President Shadrack Maluki during the team's flag-off ceremony, Korir reminded the athletes that they would be carrying the hopes of millions of Kenyans.

"You are more than competitors; you are ambassadors of our nation. Every time you step onto the track, into the ring, onto the court or onto the field of play, you carry with you the hopes and aspirations of more than 50 million Kenyans," said Korir.

He urged the team to remain united, focused and disciplined throughout the Games, expressing confidence that they would make the country proud.

Team Kenya captain Julius Yego said the athletes were in high spirits and ready to compete for top honours.
"The team is really excited. Everyone is ready, motivated and looking forward to competing for top honours at the Commonwealth Games," said Yego.
The former world javelin champion also commended NOCK for ensuring the team was well prepared.
"NOCK has done a great job with our accommodation and preparations, and I can assure you that every team is ready," he added.
Co-captain Zeddy Cherotich thanked the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports for supporting the team's preparations, saying the investment had boosted the athletes' confidence ahead of the Games.
"Your investment in our journey has given us the confidence to prepare well and represent our country in Glasgow," she said.
Team Kenya is expected to depart for Glasgow in the coming days to begin its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
