Telco says the move is meant to allow their customers to enjoy major sporting activities which include the Euro and Copa America finals.

While citing major sporting events as the reason for the postponement, Safaricom said the maintenance will be undertaken at a later date.

It however did not announce the new date for the maintenance.
“We hear you, and we value your feedback. The scheduled system maintenance later this evening has been rescheduled to a later date to allow you to enjoy a worry-free M-Pesa on this sport-packed evening,” Safaricom said in a statement on Sunday.
The sports events include two major football finals scheduled for Sunday: the UEFA European Football Championship (Euros) final between Spain and England, and the Copa América final between Argentina and Colombia.
Safaricom had on Saturday, July 13, 2024, announced that the maintenance would affect several key services. These included Lipa na M-Pesa, Paybill, and Buy Goods services, as well as International Money Transfers via Western Union, M-Pesa Global, and the M-Pesa and mySafaricom apps.
“We are continuously innovating and enhancing our services to connect our customers with endless possibilities. To meet our promise to always offer worry-free superior customer experiences, we will be conducting scheduled system maintenance on the night of Sunday 14th July 2024, from 11 pm to 4 am on Monday 15th July 2024,” the telco said.
The company had assured customers that other services such as calls, data, SMS, and all other M-Pesa services would remain operational during the planned outage.
"The timing of this maintenance has been planned to result in the least inconvenience to our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding as we strive to provide you with best-in-class services,” the telco said then.
