The Assembly cited Raila's decades-long role in shaping Kenya's political and economic development, noting that he dedicated much of his adult life to the struggle for greater democratic space, good governance, the rule of law and infrastructure development.

Nairobi MCAs have approved a motion seeking the establishment of a monument in honour of the late Raila Odinga at the Supreme Court roundabout, recognising his contribution to Kenya's democratic development, constitutional reforms, infrastructure growth and national unity.
The motion, sponsored by Nairobi West MCA John Rex Omolleh, was passed on Wednesday after the County Assembly adopted an amendment relocating the proposed monument from Uhuru Park to the Supreme Court roundabout.
In approving the proposal, the Assembly cited Raila's decades-long role in shaping Kenya's political and economic development, noting that he dedicated much of his adult life to the struggle for greater democratic space, good governance, the rule of law and infrastructure development.
The motion further recognised Raila's contribution to major infrastructure projects during his tenure as Minister for Roads and Public Works, including the Thika Superhighway, Eastern Bypass and Southern Bypass. Lawmakers said the projects remain among the country's most transformative road developments.
MCAs also acknowledged his role in the push for constitutional reforms that culminated in the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the introduction of devolution, which fundamentally transformed governance in the country.

The Assembly further credited him with promoting national cohesion through political reconciliation efforts, including engagements with former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, as well as President William Ruto, which it said helped restore peace and stability during periods of political tension, including the 2008 post-election crisis and the 2024 Gen-Z protests.
The motion also noted that the African Union appointed Raila as its High Representative for Infrastructure Development in recognition of his contribution to infrastructure development across the continent.
The Assembly said the monument would serve as a lasting tribute to Raila's "selfless sacrifice in championing good governance, democratic space, rule of law and development of infrastructure" throughout his adult life.
Raila died on October 15, 2025, and was accorded a State funeral before being laid to rest at his ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County, on October 19, 2025.
