Mombasa women challenged to take 19km-walk and get goodies

Mombasa residents will have access to a free medical camp and a special Valentine's Day treat after completing the 19 km walk tomorrow (February 10, 2024).
The residents will get a chance to receive free medical services organized by Mikindani and Agha Khan Hospitals.

The services include Covid 19 vaccination, Blood Pressure Check, Blood Sugar Check, BMI check, Hiv Testing and Nutrition services.
Organizers are urging residents to show up for the walk, promising that participants will get complimentary chocolate and flowers.
This event combines health awareness with a touch of romance, providing an opportunity for the community to come together in celebration and care for one another.

Saturday marks the second edition of the Bonje Walk Valentine Edition Challenge, following last year's successful turnout of over 100 residents.
They usually meet at 5 am and start the walk 15 minutes later. The 19-kilometre walk usually takes one and a half hours.
Idris encouraged the residents to prioritize their health and fitness noting that it encompasses both physical and mental well-being.
“By rallying people to show up for themselves, we promote a holistic approach to self-care. Engaging in regular exercise not only strengthens the body but also releases endorphins, boosting mood and reducing stress. Additionally, nurturing mental fitness through activities like meditation or mindfulness exercises can enhance overall resilience and cognitive function,” he said.
The first Bonje Valentine Challenge was held last year on February 11 where they trek from Saba Saba Junction to Bonje (Premium Energy Petrol Station), a distance of 19 kilometres.

These camps, he envisions, will cater to individuals grappling with hypertension, diabetes, and various ailments, providing much-needed healthcare support.
One of the ladies, Maimuna Ali says she will be taking part in tomorrow's event.
“I benefit from the initiative. I used to be too lazy to go to the gym or even walk alone. When a friend mentioned to me they would be offering a flower and chocolate last year, I joined and never looked back,” says Ali who so far has lost 50kg through walking every weekend.
