According to Addis Standard, Sagni during a press briefing on December 6, revealed that the agreement would take effect within two days.
The pact, which comprises 13 provisions, focuses on restoring peace and reintegrating combatants into civilian life.
“The war waged in Oromia for years has caused harm to peaceful civilians without bringing any benefits. Therefore, for the sake of the country’s peace, we decided to lay down our arms and reach an agreement with the government,” Sagni said.
Key elements of the agreement include security measures, compensation for war-related damages, and reintegration of OLA fighters.
Committees representing both sides have been established to oversee its implementation.
Sagni emphasized the significance of collective responsibility: “Any party unwilling to accept or participate in the implementation of this agreement would not have a role in its execution.”
This agreement follows Sagni’s announcement that his faction no longer aligns with the OLA, citing authoritarian practices by its leader, Kumsa Diriba (Jaal Marroo).
In response, the OLA criticised the deal, arguing it was made with individuals dismissed from their ranks for alleged misconduct.
While details remain undisclosed, regional authorities report that some OLA members have already begun entering designated camps under the agreement.
Sagni urged the government to honour its commitments, stating, “The government should implement the agreement in the interest of the public.”
