The newly promoted side looked confident from kickoff, dominating possession and showing more attacking intent through midfield maestro Ashley Shilwatso, who has been in sensational form this season.
Shilwatso threatened early on with a curling effort that went wide, while Captain Hellen Ochieng and Magneta Ocharo combined well to create chances that forced fine saves from the Kisumu goalkeeper. The first half ended goalless, but Kayole’s pressure finally paid off after the break.
Substitute Linda Kihara made an instant impact in the 61st minute, tapping home from Drailer’s cross to hand Kayole the lead. The momentum stayed with the hosts, and in the 83rd minute, Ashley Shilwatso pounced on a loose ball after Faith Naliaka’s delivery was spilt by the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 and seal the win.
The goal takes Shilwatso’s tally to four goals and one assist in three matches, continuing her brilliant start to the campaign.
Kayole have now recorded two consecutive victories following their earlier triumph over Gideon Starlets.
At the Police Sacco Stadium, defending champions Kenya Police Bullets sent a strong statement of intent with a 6-0 demolition of league newcomers Gideon Starlets.
Ugandan forward Margaret Kunihira was the star of the show, netting her first hat-trick of the season in a dominant performance.
The Bullets led 3-0 at halftime through goals from Kunihira, Lorna Nyarinda, and Zaina Namuleme, before adding three more after the break to complete the rout. Kunihira’s pace and precision proved too much for Gideon’s defence, while new signing Diana Tembesi impressed in her first league start.
The result keeps Kenya Police Bullets top of the table with nine points, just above Vihiga Queens (6 points), who remain unbeaten as well. Vihiga plays Kisped Queens on Sunday.
At Zetech University, Mangu Campus, Ulinzi Starlets picked up a vital 1-0 win over Zetech Sparks in a tightly contested fixture. The game was decided by an unfortunate own goal in the 63rd minute, as Sparks defender accidentally deflected the ball into her own net while attempting to clear a cross.
The win lifts Ulinzi Starlets to seven points, maintaining their unbeaten run and keeping them within touching distance of the league leaders. For Zetech Sparks, it was a tough afternoon as they failed to capitalise on their home advantage and will now look to bounce back in their next outing.
In another fixture at Marist University, Karen, Kibera Soccer Women, and Trinity Starlets battled to a goalless draw. Despite both sides creating promising chances, neither could find the breakthrough in a match that saw solid defensive displays from both ends.
