Schools have been directed to verify and correct School-Based Assessment records for Grade 6 and Grade 9 learners by July 30 ahead of the 2026 KPSEA and KJSEA national examinations.

Schools have until July 30 to confirm the School-Based Assessment (SBA) records for Grade 6 and Grade 9 learners who are expected to sit the 2026 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), as the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) rolls out a nationwide verification of continuous assessment scores.
The exercise requires principals to log into their schools’ Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal to verify that School-Based Assessment (SBA) scores for every eligible learner have been correctly uploaded.
School heads are also expected to identify and resolve any discrepancies before the July 30 deadline to ensure all candidates’ assessment records are complete.

The verification covers learners preparing for the first national assessments at the primary and junior school levels under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Grade 6 learners will sit the KPSEA, while Grade 9 candidates will take the KJSEA in October, with SBA scores contributing to each learner’s final assessment alongside the national examination.
Accurate SBA records are critical because they form part of the final grade under the Competency-Based Curriculum. For Grade 6 candidates sitting the Kenya KPSEA, SBA accounts for 40 per cent of the final score, while the national assessment contributes 60 per cent.
For Grade 9 learners taking the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), School-Based Assessments contribute 20 per cent, with the national assessment accounting for 80 per cent. Missing or inaccurate SBA records could therefore affect a candidate’s final outcome.

“KNEC is in the process of verifying the capturing of SBA scores by schools,” the exams regulator said in a notice on Thursday.
The council urged schools to complete the verification within the stipulated period to ensure every eligible learner’s assessment record is captured ahead of the 2026 national assessments.
"All Heads of Institutions are required to log into the CBA portal and verify the uploaded SBA scores for all eligible candidates by July 30, 2026," KNEC said.
