The government has released Sh4 billion to begin payment of verified hospital claims owed to healthcare facilities under the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), targeting claims of Sh10 million and below.
In a statement, SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi said eligible facilities will only receive payments after completing a mandatory sign-off process confirming that their verified claims have been fully settled.
She noted that healthcare facilities must attend the exercise in their respective regions and complete the required documentation before funds are released.
“Eligible healthcare facilities will be required to execute sign-off agreements confirming that their verified defunct NIF claims have been fully settled,” Mwangangi said.
To facilitate the rollout, SHA has deployed officers to county offices to assist health providers with the sign-off process. The authority added that completion of this step will unlock payment for all eligible facilities.
“The list of 3, 527 eligible healthcare facilities is available on the SHA website at www.sha.go.ke and at all SHA County Offices,” the Authority said.
The exercise has been organised into regional schedules across the country.
In the Western region covering Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, Busia, Vihiga, Kakamega and Bungoma, the sign-off will take place at the SHA Office in Kisumu on July 6 to 7, 2026.
In the North Rift region covering Trans Nzoia, Turkana, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi and Baringo, the exercise will be held at the SHA Office in Eldoret on July 8 to 9, 2026.

SHA had requested a budgetary support from the National Treasury in the 2026/2027 financial year to settle the larger verified arrears inherited from the former National Hospital Insurance Fund.
The Authority noted that the second phase would benefit 451 healthcare facilities whose claims have already undergone verification. SHA said it will continue updating stakeholders as the payment process progresses.
Healthcare providers seeking clarification have been urged to contact SHA through the toll-free number 147 or via
