Kenya homicide cases stabilise after 2021 peak
Kenya recorded 3,015 homicide cases in 2024, down slightly from 2022 and 2023. Police data shows a stabilising trend after a decade-high peak in 2021, highlighting a persistent public safety concern.
According to the National Police Service (NPS) Annual Crime Reports, Kenya recorded 3,015 homicide cases in 2024, continuing a slight decline and stabilisation following a peak in 2021. The numbers dropped from 3,056 in 2022 to 3,031 in 2023, before reaching the current level.
Homicide cases had previously risen sharply, increasing from 3,111 in 2020 to a decade-high of 3,280 in 2021. This followed a steady upward trend from 2015, when 2,648 cases were recorded, rising to 2,970 by 2019.
