From resignation deadlines and party primaries to nominations, campaigns and Election Day, here are the dates that will shape Kenya's 2027 General Election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released the key timelines that will guide preparations for the 2027 General Election, outlining critical deadlines for political parties, independent candidates, public officers and other election stakeholders.
The roadmap is intended to ensure a smooth, transparent and well-organised electoral process ahead of the polls scheduled for Tuesday, August 10, 2027.
The first major milestone falls on Tuesday, February 9, 2027, when public officers intending to contest in the General Election must resign from public office, in line with the constitutional requirement to leave office at least six months before the election.
The next key deadline is Tuesday, March 16, 2027, by which political parties must submit their membership lists to the Commission, together with details of their planned party primaries, including the dates and venues.
Attention then shifts to May. By Sunday, May 9, 2027, political parties are required to complete their party primaries and conclude any disputes arising from the nomination process. The same deadline applies to independent candidates, who must submit their names and symbols to the Commission. In addition, anyone seeking to run as an independent candidate must not have been a member of any registered political party for at least three months before the General Election.
The nomination of political party candidates and independent candidates will take place between Saturday, May 29, and Friday, June 11, 2027. Any disputes arising from nominations must be resolved within 10 days of being filed and, in any case, no later than Saturday, June 12, 2027.
The official campaign period will also begin on Saturday, May 29, 2027, and run until Saturday, August 7, 2027, ending exactly 48 hours before polling day. Campaign activities will be allowed daily between 7.00 am and 6.00 pm.
During the campaign period, political parties and independent candidates must appoint and submit the names of their election and polling station agents to the Commission by Tuesday, July 27, 2027.
The electoral calendar will culminate on Tuesday, August 10, 2027, when Kenyans will vote in the General Election across the gazetted electoral areas where elections are contested.
