Rainfall expected across parts of Kenya over the next five days

Rainfall is expected to persist across several parts of the country over the next five days, from today, Saturday, April 5, through to Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

The Kenya Meteorological Department is forecasting varied weather patterns across different regions, with most areas expected to experience showers, thunderstorms and partly cloudy conditions.

According to the forecast, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley—including the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley—are set to experience morning rainfall, followed by scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi County, will similarly experience morning rainfall, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Director of Meteorological Services, David Gikungu, noted that wet conditions will persist into the night, although milder weather is expected by Wednesday.

“Daytime temperatures will hover around 28°C, with night-time temperatures ranging between 10°C and 12°C,” he said.

In the North-eastern region—including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties—rain is expected in a few areas during the morning, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon. Evenings will remain partly cloudy, with isolated showers. Temperatures are expected to peak at 39°C on Tuesday before easing to 38°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the North-western region—including Turkana and Samburu counties—will experience hot conditions, with temperatures rising to highs of 38°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, mornings will begin with sunny intervals, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Light showers are expected in a few places at night. Temperatures will range from morning lows of 11°C to afternoon highs of 37°C.

In the South-eastern lowlands—including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties—the forecast indicates sunny intervals in the mornings, followed by rain showers in the afternoon and at night. Temperatures will vary between 33°C and 35°C, with minimums ranging from 15°C to 16°C.

Coastal regions—including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties—are expected to experience showers in several areas during the morning and afternoon, with partly cloudy skies in the evening. Daytime temperatures will range between 34°C and 35°C, while night-time temperatures are expected to range from 23°C to 25°C.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised the public to stay informed and prepare accordingly for the fluctuating weather conditions. It has also urged Kenyans to consult daily weather updates for more localised forecasts.
