Isolated heavy showers expected in Rift Valley, Lake Victoria basin - Kenya Met

In North-western Kenya, particularly Turkana and Samburu counties, morning rains are expected, followed by scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms in a few locations.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released its weekly weather forecast for September 30 to October 6, 2025, indicating mostly sunny and dry conditions across much of the country.

However, several regions are expected to receive rainfall, with isolated heavy showers likely in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and parts of North-western Kenya.

According to the forecast, counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Kericho, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu, are likely to experience morning showers in select areas.

In North-western Kenya, particularly Turkana and Samburu counties, morning rains are expected, followed by scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms in a few locations.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, covering Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, and Nairobi, will see occasional morning cloudiness followed by sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are expected in some areas during the first half of the week, spreading to more locations later.

Nights in these regions will be partly cloudy, with a chance of showers in isolated areas.

"In contrast, North-eastern and South-eastern lowland regions, including Marsabit, Mandera, Garissa, Kitui, and Machakos are expected to remain largely dry, though isolated showers may develop in select areas during the latter half of the week," the Department stated.

Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu are forecast to experience sunny intervals, with occasional morning showers in some areas.

Daytime temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C across much of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions, while night-time temperatures may fall below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

A review of the previous week, September 22–28, showed rainfall in a few counties, notably Bungoma, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, and Nyandarua.

Daytime temperatures rose across most parts of the country, with slight warming only in Suba, Mandera, and Marsabit. Night-time temperatures increased in Kericho, Kisumu, and Kakamega, while Laikipia, Voi, and Kitui experienced cooler nights.

The department advised residents in rainfall-prone areas to remain alert for potential localised flooding and to follow updates through official channels.
