IEBC says 875,501 new voters registered in 10 days of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration, with Nairobi leading and some counties lagging, as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reported a sharp increase in voter participation during the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, with 875,501 new voters registered within the first 10 days as of April 9, 2026.
In its latest update, the Commission said the exercise, which began on March 30, 2026 and will run until April 28, 2026, has also recorded 49,502 voter transfers and 1,066 updates of voter particulars.
The nationwide exercise is being conducted across all 1,450 County Assembly Wards, Huduma Centres, constituency offices, institutions of higher learning, and the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers. Registration is ongoing daily, including weekends and public holidays.
"The Commission is deeply inspired by the patriotic spirit displayed by Kenyans over the past week. We wish to extend our sincere appreciation and congratulations to the hundreds of thousands of citizens who have stepped forward to claim their right to vote," said Erastus Ethekon, IEBC Chairperson.
At the county level, Nairobi County led in new voter registrations with 96,897, followed by Kiambu with 46,265 and Kakamega with 40,110. Nakuru recorded 32,559, Machakos 30,686, and Mombasa 21,258, reflecting strong engagement in major urban and densely populated regions.
Other counties posting notable figures included Murang’a, Nyeri, Narok, Nandi, Kericho, Bungoma and Turkana, indicating broad-based participation across the country.
At the lower end, Isiolo, Lamu, Mandera, Samburu, Nyandarua and Wajir recorded comparatively lower numbers of new registrations. However, the Commission emphasised that the exercise remains ongoing and urged eligible citizens to take advantage of the remaining registration period.
The IEBC also reported isolated incidents of insecurity targeting its staff during the exercise, which it strongly condemned, calling for enhanced protection of officials carrying out the national exercise.
The Commission further encouraged voters to verify their registration details through its online verification platform as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 General Election.
