"I am proud to witness the swearing of Professor Abraham Kithure Kindiki as the third Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution," he said.
The President spoke of Kindiki's patriotism, noting that his commitment to cohesion, national unity, and inclusivity is "beyond reproach."
The President further praised Kindiki as an effective champion of peace and stability and a loyal steward of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which the Kenya Kwanza administration has developed to elevate the country.
"Over the last two decades, I have had the privilege to witness Professor Kindiki's work as a professor, litigation lawyer, consulting attorney, senator representing Tharaka Nithi, Majority Leader, and Deputy Speaker of the Senate, and most recently as Cabinet Secretary," Ruto remarked.
He affirmed that in all these roles, Kindiki has "demonstrated exceptional dedication, high competence, and professionalism" while consistently delivering results beyond expectations.
Ruto stated that the people of Kenya require a patriot, a public servant, and a constitutional champion to support the presidency in delivering timely services.
He pointed out the need for a Deputy President who understands the importance of engaging all sectors of the economy to drive transformation.
"This moment calls for an individual who takes pride in a job well done and is humble enough to be a loyal servant of the people," Ruto said.
The President expressed his delight in having Kindiki as a member of his team. "I am honoured that he is available, willing, and ready to serve as my deputy. We're not here to serve ourselves, or our families or our regions, or communities; we're here to serve the people of Kenya," Ruto said.
In addition, the President urged Kindiki to embrace his new role and assist in implementing government policies effectively.
"Serve without ill will, affection, or without fear so that Kenyans can know that we have one nation, one country, one people," he noted.
This is the first time Ruto has publicly addressed why he chose Kindiki to succeed Rigathi Gachagua.
