Blogger in court over fake posts on President Ruto's funeral

The prosecution says Mokaya had suggested that the picture was a funeral procession of President Ruto's body leaving the Lee Funeral Home.
A bold blogger who shared a picture of President William Ruto's funeral procession on socials has been charged with the publication of false information.
David Mokaya was charged with false publication contrary to section 22 (1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.

"On November 13, 2024, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, you published false data being an image of
a funeral procession with a casket covered with a Kenyan flag, escorted by military officers in ceremonial uniform," the charge sheet reads in part.
The prosecution says Mokaya had suggested that the picture was a funeral procession of President Ruto's body leaving the Lee Funeral Home.
The suspect is accused of publishing the picture on his X account with the intention of having the data considered authentic.
Mokaya denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhumbi of the Milimani Law Courts.
He was released on a bond of Sh100,000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000.
The matter will be mentioned on December 4.
