Two arrested as police hunt more suspects over violent disruption of All Saints' Cathedral budget forum

Two suspects are in custody as police review CCTV footage and pursue additional suspects linked to the violent disruption of a budget forum at Nairobi's All Saints' Cathedral.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent disruption of a budget forum at All Saints' Cathedral in Nairobi, where a group of individuals stormed the premises during discussions on the national budget.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspects were apprehended after officers responded to reports of the disturbance and restored order at the church compound.
The incident occurred on June 12 when the group allegedly attempted to disrupt the forum being held within the cathedral grounds.
"Upon receiving reports of the disturbance, police officers responded promptly to the scene. They successfully repulsed the group, restored order, and secured the area," the NPS said.
Police confirmed that the two suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the incident.

"Investigations are ongoing, including a thorough review of CCTV footage, with the aim of identifying and apprehending all other individuals involved," the statement said.
The service appealed to members of the public with information that could assist investigators to report to the nearest police station or use emergency numbers 999 and 911. The NPS assured the public that all information shared would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

"The Service reaffirms its unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the public. This incident will be investigated thoroughly, professionally, transparently, and impartially to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice," the statement said.
The disruption of the budget forum sparked widespread concern and condemnation from various stakeholders, with calls for the protection of civic spaces and the constitutional right of citizens to participate in public affairs without fear or intimidation.
