The National Police Service said detectives are still reviewing video footage and carrying out wider investigations with the aim of identifying more people involved in the attack.

Three suspects have been arrested after a political convoy linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement was attacked in Keumbu, Kisii County, on Friday.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the incident is under active investigation after a video of the attack circulated widely on mainstream and social media, showing a convoy of motor vehicles being targeted along the Kisii-Keroka Road.
Police service said preliminary findings established that the attack happened on Friday, July 3, 2026, and was directed at a political group that was in the area at the time.
Following the incident, officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kisii Central and Keumbu Police Station moved in and arrested three suspects who are now in custody as investigations continue.
“In response, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kisii Central, and Keumbu Police Station moved swiftly and arrested three suspects, who are currently in custody,” the police said.
The National Police Service said detectives are still reviewing video footage and carrying out wider investigations with the aim of identifying more people involved in the attack.
“A more detailed analysis of the video, alongside wider investigative efforts, is underway with a view to making further arrests,” reads the statement.
The police condemned the violence, saying political intolerance will not be accepted under any circumstances.
“The NPS strongly condemns the events depicted. Political intolerance, in whatever form, is unacceptable and will be rigorously pursued through the criminal justice system,” the Service said
Inspector General of the National Police Service Douglas Kamja has also directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to fast-track investigations, examine all aspects of the violence and identify any gaps that may have contributed to the incident. The unit has already deployed officers to the ground in Keumbu.
The service further urged members of the public to share any information that may assist investigations through police stations or via toll-free lines.
The attack left supporters of the ODM-linked Linda Mwananchi movement injured as they travelled towards Keroka for a political rally on Friday evening.
Among those affected was United Green Movement Party presidential aspirant David Maraga, whose vehicle was among several damaged during the confrontation with armed groups.
Scenes from Keumbu Market along the Kisii-Keroka Road showed groups of armed youth throwing stones at the convoy, with some wielding clubs as they targeted vehicles carrying political leaders.
The attackers were heard warning members of the public not to pass through the area during the confrontation.
The incident has drawn public concern, with many expressing alarm over repeated cases of violent disruptions targeting political activities in different parts of the country.
Leaders affiliated to the Linda Mwananchi movement have condemned the violence and demanded swift action against those involved and their sponsors.
