Mwangi's lawyers accuse Robert Alai of sharing a fabricated social media post, demanding its removal, a public apology and threatening a Sh50 million defamation suit if he fails to comply within 24 hours.

Political activist and presidential aspirant Boniface Mwangi has issued a cease-and-desist demand to blogger and politician Robert Alai, accusing him of publishing defamatory content based on a fake social media post allegedly attributed to him.
In a demand letter dated June 24, 2026, lawyers representing Mwangi claim that Alai shared a Facebook post on June 23 containing a fabricated screenshot purportedly authored by the activist. They argue that Alai failed to verify the authenticity of the screenshot before publishing it to his Facebook audience of more than 795,000 followers.
According to the letter, the post was accompanied by the caption, “You die. They earn,” which Mwangi's legal team says falsely portrayed him as benefiting financially from the deaths of Kenyans.
“Your publication was made without making any effort to determine the veracity of the screenshot, which was actually a fake post falsely attributed to our client,” the letter states.
The lawyers further argue that Mwangi neither authored the alleged post nor has any association with an organisation referred to as the “Social Change Warriors Fund,” which appeared in the disputed content.

“Mr. Mwangi did not author any post referencing the Social Change Warriors Fund, and it does not appear anywhere on his social media accounts,” the demand letter reads. “Our client is not aware of any fund known as the Social Change Warriors Fund, and he has no affiliation with any such fund.”
Mwangi's legal team says the publication was “reckless, malicious and irresponsible,” and was intended to damage his reputation by portraying him as someone who profits from national tragedies.
The advocates further state that the post attracted hundreds of comments disparaging Mwangi's character and damaging his reputation among members of the public.
As a result, they have demanded that Alai immediately stop publishing content about Mwangi, remove the disputed post from all social media platforms within 24 hours, issue a public apology, and admit liability for the publication.
“Your actions have led to continued damage to the reputation and goodwill of Boniface Mwangi, who enjoys the trust of the majority of Kenyans as a voice of the common mwananchi and a presidential candidate,” the lawyers state.
The letter warns that failure to comply with the demands within 24 hours will result in legal proceedings, including a defamation suit seeking Sh50 million in damages, along with legal costs. By the time of publication, Alai had not publicly responded to the allegations.
