Court documents indicate that the accused, together with other individuals who have not been charged, allegedly transported 333.35 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of Sh10,000,500.

A Tanzanian and a Kenyan national have been charged with trafficking cannabis valued at more than Sh10 million before a court in Mombasa.
The two accused, Paul Ogolla Ogutu, also known as Ogola, and Emmanuel Ndoro Chaka, alias Ndoro, appeared before Resident Magistrate Jamlick Muriithi Mwenda and pleaded not guilty to a charge of drug trafficking.
According to the prosecution, the two were arrested following an operation by anti-narcotics officers in Mariakani, Kaloleni Sub-County, Kilifi County, on June 19, 2026.
Court documents indicate that the accused, together with other individuals who have not been charged, allegedly transported 333.35 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of Sh10,000,500.
The prosecution told the court that the drugs were being conveyed in a white FAW JH5 lorry, registration number KDL 220P, towing trailer ZE 6680 and carrying container number MSMU 6177520.
Investigators said anti-narcotics detectives intercepted the vehicle in Mariakani and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of nine sacks containing dry plant material suspected to be cannabis.
An affidavit filed by the investigating officer states that the exhibits were photographed before being submitted to the Government Chemist for analysis, sampling and weighing.
The substances were subsequently confirmed to weigh 333.35 kilograms and were valued at Sh10,000,500.
The court heard that Ndoro was behind the wheel of the lorry, which belongs to Sayusa Company, while Ogutu was travelling as a passenger at the time of the arrest.
Prosecutor Martin Mbote opposed the release of the two men on bail and requested a pre-bail report before the court makes a determination on the application.
The prosecution argued that both accused persons reside near the Kenya–Tanzania border, making them potential flight risks.
Investigators further informed the court that inquiries are ongoing, including forensic and cyber analysis, and that releasing the suspects at this stage could interfere with crucial aspects of the investigation.
Mbote urged the court to deny bail pending the hearing and determination of the case, arguing that the seriousness of the charge and the severe penalties attached upon conviction could increase the likelihood of the accused absconding.
Magistrate Mwenda directed that the matter be mentioned on July 2, for the presentation of a pre-bail report and pre-trial directions.
