The post-mortem findings came as Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs recorded a statement with detectives at the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters.

A post-mortem examination has established that youth mobiliser Cecil Ouma died from a single gunshot wound to the chest as investigations into the fatal shooting continue.
The examination, conducted on Thursday by pathologists representing the government and Ouma's family, found that the bullet caused extensive internal injuries and massive bleeding in the chest, leading to his death.
"We have done the post-mortem as two pathologists, one representing the government and the other representing the family. The conclusion is that he died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the left side of the chest," one of the pathologists told journalists.

The pathologist said the bullet entered through Ouma's left forearm near the elbow before penetrating the chest, puncturing the lungs, fracturing the spine and lodging behind it.

"There was a lot of bleeding inside the chest. There was internal bleeding, and that was the cause of death," he said.

The recovered bullet has since been handed over to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) for ballistic examination, while additional samples were collected to support the ongoing investigations.

"The bullet has been retrieved and submitted for ballistic investigations. Other specimens have also been taken to complete the investigations," the pathologist added.

The post-mortem findings came as Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs recorded a statement with detectives at the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters.

Speaking after meeting investigators, Fikirini said he had honoured a police summons and pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation.

"My commitment is that I will continue to make myself available for any investigation about this tragic death. I will continue to make myself available upon request by investigation agencies so that ultimately we ensure that justice is done," he said.

Preliminary reports indicate that Ouma was allegedly shot after a youth empowerment programme in Kariokor presided over by the Principal Secretary. Police have so far recorded statements from seven people, including two bodyguards attached to the PS and a director from the State Department for Youth Affairs who was reportedly inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Investigators have also recovered two firearms from the bodyguards for ballistic examination to determine which weapon fired the fatal shot. The investigation remains ongoing.
