Coast leaders have intensified campaigns for the implementation of the national 10-point agenda, urging residents to embrace unity and reject divisive politics as the country prepares for future political cycles.
The leaders said national development depends on cooperation across political and ethnic divides, stressing that peace and social cohesion are essential for economic growth and stability.
Speaking during a development tour of Jomvu Constituency in Mombasa County, ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir said compensation for victims of extrajudicial killings is a matter of justice that transcends political administrations and successive governments.
“The government has taken responsibility, and it is important to note that those who were at the forefront when Raila Odinga signed the agreement should ensure that these children and families are compensated. This did not start with President William Ruto. All previous governments have had a role, and today our people are finally receiving compensation. This was a position long held by Raila Odinga and ODM, and under this broad-based arrangement we are saying everything is possible and we have delivered,” Abdulswamad said.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya cautioned against leaders he accused of promoting ethnic divisions, saying such rhetoric undermines national unity and shifts attention away from development.
“There are individuals who are confusing the public and trying to influence citizens in the wrong direction. They come here promoting politics of ethnicity,” Mvurya said.
He added: “We want to state clearly that the President has brought equality in development, ensuring that those who were previously left out are now part of the table discussing national progress.”
Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib announced plans to establish a Technical Training College in the constituency, saying the institution will expand access to vocational education and skills development for young people.
“For the first time, Jomvu will establish a Technical Training College,” Twalib said.
The leaders jointly urged residents to support leadership that promotes unity, warning that politics rooted in division could slow development and weaken national cohesion. They emphasised that the successful implementation of the 10-point agenda will depend on cooperation, inclusivity and a shared national purpose.
